2010 Baja Finals a LARGE-SCALE SUCCESS!

We are very happy to report that this year's Baja Finals went down really well, with all the teams enjoying themselves and having a great time!

Twelve teams made it to the 12-hour Baja Finals at the very nice RACO2000 track in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with some teams arriving as early as Thursday to check out the track and visit Amsterdam, which was just 45 minutes away.

Friday consisted of the tyre and T-shirt handouts, followed by an inspection of each car to be raced and a shirt driver briefing. The 2-hour practice session ran smoothly, quickly followed by an hour of qualification. The entertainment Friday evening consisted of a meal at a huge Chinese/Japanese buffet, with custom-cooked wok cuisine, sushi and more.

Saturday morning, all the teams arrived fresh and early for the 9 AM start - but before the race could get under way we had the group picture and individual team photos for everyone.

The race was started LeMans-style, with mechanics running across the track to start the cars. For the first few hours the top five teams were separated by no more than 5-10 laps, making it a very close race between two teams from Holland, the Hungarian team (which won this race in 2008), the team from Denmark and the German team!

By the midpoint of the race, 6 hours in, Holland team 1 and Holland team 2 were neck-and-neck with Hungary, always within just a few laps of each other! The Danish and German teams had suffered with minor problems and had fallen back slightly but were locked into their own battle for fourth, within 10-12 laps of each other the whole time.

Further down the order, the two teams from the United Kingdom were locked together and swapping places while the Slovenians were anxious to make up laps for their early problems, the Swedish team was trying to stay ahead of the third Holland team (running a Baja 5T!) and the two French teams were trying valiantly to make up time to the other teams.

In the last couple of hours, Holland team 2 was able to edge out an advantage over Hungary, who was many laps ahead of Holland team 1. The Danes had to change their clutch late in the race, giving fourth to Germany.

The 2010 Baja Finals Result:
1. Holland1
2. Hungary
3. Holland2
4. Germany
5. Denmark
6. UK1
7. UK2
8. Sweden
9. Holland3
10. Slovenia
11. France1
12. France2

We'll have a complete race report, with hour-by-hour updates, plus MANY pictures, very soon!

JConcepts 1/10th Scale Punisher

(Fits Team Associated B4.1 and B4 models)

The Punisher body by JConcepts for the B4.1 is the meanest, nastiest thing out for 1/10th buggy racing. Throw everything you know out the window, the Punisher separates itself from the rest of the bodies on the market with its distinctive styling.

Debuted at the 2010 ROAR Off-Road Nationals, the radical new Punisher body stares you down like a trained fighter. The slight cab-forward treatment is amongst the most aggressive in class giving the Punisher top notch performance. Blended wing / body design gives additional down-force to the side-pods and windshield which increases drivability, corner speed and jump control. The rear base of the cab area represents the latest offering for 1/10th buggy racing featuring a super low profile design for increased air flow, escape and body placement.

In addition to the newly designed body JConcepts has included 2 of the popular 6.5" wide high downforce V- wings that are commonly used around the world.

Features:

* Original - JConcepts Punisher design
* Blended wing / body design
* Includes 2 – 6.5" wide high downforce V- wings
* Clear polycarbonate with protective film
* Window masks and decal sheet

All bodies are sold clear and are shown painted for advertising purposes only. Tires, wheels and bodies are sold separately, unless otherwise specified. JConcepts reserves the right to update or make changes to product, packaging or contents.

Elcon race report Print E-mail

With the season well in the second half we give you the last update on the bigger events that have been run.

Podium GP NL 2010 GP of Holland 2010.

Dario takes home the largest trophy to Croatia with just 6 seconds ahead of Elcon driver Kay Koops in 2nd. Nick Visser completes the podium in 3rd.

It was a hard and fierce battle between 4 cars and the winner could have been as well Alexander Schmitt who also battled along till the last 3 minutes.

But in the final hectic minutes of the race the podium settled.

With Kay fighting back from fourth and closing in on Dario in the last few laps. The time ticked away just to fast for Kay to catch him again.

It was a superb result to see 5 Cleons in the main final. Even better is to know these were mostly privateers which proves it is not just the team drivers getting excellent results.

Well done to Erik Wadners, Alex Mulder, Stevo Backland and Marc van Delft!

1/8th Scale Off Road Nationals - Rnd 8

The final round of the 2010 series was held over the weekend and we were back to Westmill for our second visit of the season.

The overall championship was already decided with Darren Bloomfield (Savox) crowned champion at the penultimate round at Slough and Simon Willetts had also wrapped up 2nd overall with his consistent season. 3rd was up for grabs and it would be a fight between Elliott Boots (RB/Savox), Graham Alsop (RB) and Neil Cragg (AE/Reedy/Proline/Byron) to take the final step on the podium.

Round 1 of qualifying got underway and it was Darren Bloomfield who sneaked the TQ by 1/10th of a second from Neil Cragg and Elliott Boots 3rd.

In round 2 it was Elliott, who took top honours from Darren and Neil, then he also went on to take round 3 with a stunning time to take the overall meeting TQ. Darren would line up 2nd and Neil 3rd.

The day offered up some odd qualifying and we saw some notable drivers as far down as the C final. Tony Truman (AE/Reedy/Proline/Byron) bumped his way comfortably out of the C, despite a last lap crash that broke a turnbuckle and would go on to progress from the B also. Craig Drescher (AE/Reedy/Proline/Byron) also sneaked out of the B, just pipping team mate Dave Bailey (AE/RB/Proline/Byron) for the final bump up spot.

The main final got underway with Elliott and Darren battling up until the 1st round of pit stops. Although Elliott, with his hard charging driving style, was not able to make 10 minute stops, he knew he had to make the difference on track. At about 14 minutes Darren struck trouble in the first of a bizarre series of incidents. Coming onto the straight Darren flipped over on the astro turf which somehow popped his front driveshaft out of the drive cup leaving him without drive and out. This took the pressure of Elliott and he backed his pace off a notch now he had a big lead. However, about 2 minutes later Elliott came down the straight with it sounding sick and then cut. When the car was retrieved it was found that the exhaust pipe had come apart at the join and was leaking. This left the Willetts/Cragg/Alsop battle to become the fight for the lead but just as Willetts passed the pits to effectively take the lead from Elliott he had a problem with his rear shock absorber and could only limp back to the pits for repair. And then there were 2...

Cragg and Alsop battled it out over the last 10 minutes and swapped positions a few times but at the time it mattered it was Neil in front and he would go on to take his second win of a bad luck ridden season. His luck must all have come at once, as the set up changes made to his car before the final had made it far worse than before and with all the retirements in front he was able to take the win and 3rd overall in the series.

Another notable performance was from young Joe Adams (Hobao/RB/Proline/Byron/Savox), taking 2nd overall in the Junior category which was won by Elliott Taylor.

Another exciting season in the history books, and a worthy champion. So now we look forward to the worlds in Thailand in November to see who can survive the heat and humidity to become World Champion.
