Junior racereport from LauraK - SMRC Copenhagen off-road series Cup 3.

Summerholiday and school just a few days behind, LauraK set herself up to attend the first of her races this year. Having practised only a few hours this season, being busy playing and giving violin concerts, and manageing her grades in school, it was fustrating to leave her new Serpent S811back home on the setup bench and grab her old and trusted Ishima racer from last year, to race this weekends SMRC cup 3 in Copenhagen. With no practice at all with the Team Cobra, it would have been ufair to ride it firstly on this occasion.

The layout on the SMRC track had been redesigned during spring, so it was a new experience to drive on the more highspeed oriented track. No big changes were made to the car compared to last time, only lower ridehight and a more aggressive clutch. Her first race this years could begin !

Qualifying rounds turned out fine, so she collected a ticket to the semi-finals. A bit surprised and relived she prepared for the next challenge. The drivers, among them the danish champinion Silas Høgholt - Losi and former danish champinion Jan D. Hansen - Serpent, and a handful of hotshots from the local club, were all there to fight it out on this beautifull summer sunday.

Running a safe strategy with controlled balance between speed and no errors, she made it 4. in semi, and thereby entering the finals. Her old and retired Ishima racer was to be put to the ultimate test, for the 8th time and without service since last race, it would have to run another 45 minuttes battleing the best of buggies and drivers.

The flag lifted, and the topdogs took on a fierce fight in the lead. The two champinions persecuted by her fellow team driver Nicolas Beck driving the Serpent S811, were racing and pushing real hard in the lead. The two Serpents and the Losi car managed to build up a small gap, but unfortunately for Nicolas Beck, a wire in the radiobox snapped and caused the power to be cut off. The two champs continued their fight, but 2 flameouts hit the Losi car, and put an end to the battle in the lead. Jan D. Hansen could run his Cobra 811 home safely.

Further down in the field, LauraK was pushing on, and pulling in on the car in 3. place. At her last pitstop, she misjudged the access and got caught up in the pit entrance. The marshall not seeing this, and LauraK waiting for a friendly bystander to get the car loose, made her wast precious seconds.

With 5 minuttes to go, she had to bet all. With decisive action she managed to secure her 4. place and finish 10 sec. behind no.3, and thereby receiving the junior trophy as a plaster on the wound :) Not podium this time, maybe next race. Great raceday in high spirits and lots of dust.

3 teamdrivers from Team Buggynation / Team Serpent Denmark in the finals, 2 Serpents and an old Ishima is not bad at all, on a hot summer day.
